single capture division: documentary
Single capture images showing an authentic visual representation of events such as sport, daily life, newsworthy incidents, parties, births, funerals, and other significant life events.Images should not be staged, contrived, or manipulated to alter the truth. The Single Capture division celebrates truly authentic photography. Post-production techniques may only be used to enhance an image without altering the authenticity of the scene or subject matter of the original capture. Basic post-production techniques, such as cropping, colour and brightness adjustments, monochrome conversions are allowed, dodging and burning are allowed. Techniques that remove in-camera elements, such as dust spots, digital noise, and film scratches, are allowed. Except for cropping, the addition, removal, relocation, or replacement of pictorial elements is prohibited. Composite images are not permitted in this division.

Context Statement: Awakening Australia, a christian festival with Baptisms held and celebrated even though it was pouring with rain for 3 hours!

classic division: portrait
Images that capture a subject’s essence, personality, or story. Each image must feature at least one person and can range from candid moments to formal portraits of individuals, families, or groups.
Post-production techniques may be used to complement the original intent of the capture.
Techniques that beautify, correct, and create a finessed version of the original capture are allowed. Monochrome conversions are allowed.
The removal of pictorial elements such as safety devices, lights, stands and assistants is permitted.
Techniques that remove in-camera elements, such as dust spots, digital noise, and film scratches are allowed.
Entries where post-production work has significantly changed the reality of the original capture are not permitted, and should be entered in the Creative division. This includes added or duplicated elements, mirrored elements, textures, inserted/swapped backgrounds, digital painting, and unrealistic extensions of a background.
Composite images are only allowed where used to finesse rather than fundamentally alter the visual message. For example, head, face, and body swaps are allowed, as are HDR, focus-stacked and stitched panorama images.
